War is costly, peace is priceless

That was something I read on a bumper sticker. Ok, stupid bumper stickers
really bother me. I can't help it. If peace is so priceless, then why is war too
costly to obtain it? In some situations peace can be had without war, but
in others it's required. Contrary to popular belief, peace is not the absence
of war. Israel is a good example of this. There is no war, but there's
definitely no peace.
